From night sweats to brain fog and weight gain – the menopause can be a challenging time for many women. But for 80s pop star Sinitta, it has changed her life in the most positive way.
The singer, who is in her fifties, was going through the menopause in 2020, just as the world went into lockdown. “I was lucky because I had time to myself. The whole pandemic meant I was quite isolated,” she says. “I was very grateful to be at home unpressured while having to go through it.”
And now, having come through the other side, she admits she not only feels “fabulous” but is having the best sex ever.
“I feel more confident sexually as a woman. Even though my body is not as good as it was when I was 18, I’m much happier in my body now because I have a different kind of confidence,” explains Sinitta, who describes the menopause as “an interlude not a destination”.
“I’m confident enough to take my time and be fully aroused and satisfied and happy. But to also give the same attention to my partner.
“You’re not that insecure younger woman now. You’re a grown-ass woman and you know what you like in bed. You know what feels good and what doesn’t. And sex is genuinely really enjoyable then because nobody is having to fake it.”
In a bid to improve things further in the bedroom, she has had the O-Shot injection, a treatment that involves a vaginal shot to enhance sensation. “It can restore your vagina to the condition it was in in your early twenties,” she says. “We all look at the effect ageing has on our faces and our hair but not many look at their vagina, when actually your vagina is an important part of your sexuality.
