The 76th Cannes Film Festival was an event like no other, as a host of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry took to the red carpet to celebrate the very best of the silver screen.
Dame Helen Mirren, 77, made a statement at the grand opening, having dyed her trademark silver hair to match her powder blue gown. As she blew kisses to the waiting crowds, social media went wild for her bold, multi-toned tresses.
A playful and happy Helen admitted to British Vogue, “The very first time I came to Cannes it was so intimidating and terrifying and overwhelming. Now I can kind of laugh at it and enjoy it. I see it as a performance.”
Also playing to the cameras was Pulp Fiction legend Uma Thurman, 53. The statuesque actress wore a red cape over her blush-coloured satin Dior dress, with an ornate jewelled choker finishing off her 90s-inspired look. In a refreshing move, she opted for minimal make-up and looked radiant as she walked the red carpet with Levon, her 21-year-old son with former husband, Ethan Hawke.
Screen royalty Michael Douglas, 78, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, 53, were the proudest of parents as they made a rare appearance with their 20-year-old daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas. Catherine commented later on Instagram, “Cannes! Cannes! What a soiree! To walk the red carpet with my daughter @carys.douglas and my husband @michaelkirkdouglas as he receives his lifetime achievement Palme d’Or was a night I shall never forget, ever.”
