Every proud mum loves to talk about her children. And when one of your daughters happens to be Katie Price, there is certainly a lot to discuss. In her “raw and unflinching” new book,
Amy Price has a tale or two to tell about her famous child’s well-documented life. From Katie’s three divorces to bankruptcy hearings and rehab stints, she reveals the truth behind the headlines that have dominated newspapers and magazines for three decades.
Amy, 71, has the lung disease Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and has been given a terminal diagnosis, so it’s understandable that this devoted mother has decided now is the time to change the narrative about her daughter in her aptly titled book, The Last Word.
Joining OK! alongside Katie, 45, at her gorgeous bungalow in East Sussex, Amy is upfront from the start and admits, “I knew with my IPS, you typically have a maximum of about five years to live really, and I was in my fifth year. I’ve always felt there’s been an injustice with Katie and I felt like I just wanted to put things straight and put the truth out there.
“I don’t lie, so if it comes from me and the heart, people may take it on board that what I say is the truth.”
The book details Katie’s childhood and her exes, in not-so-flattering terms, while Amy opens up about her own life and the parallels with Katie’s. It’s a page-turner from the off.
When we suggest that it could be seen as her last goodbye, and a parting gift from mother to child and their wider family, Amy’s tears begin to fall.
She agrees, “The first few bits were really hard, when I had to write from the heart what I thought of each one of them.”
