King Charles calls for more “faith, hope and love” in the world before attending the traditional Maundy Service with Queen Camilla at Durham Cathedral

Fresh from a sun-kissed and action-packed 20th wedding anniversary state visit to Italy, and a trip to Scotland on their return, King Charles and Queen Camilla looked in high spirits last week at the Royal Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral.

It was especially significant that both the King and Queen were present at this key date in the royal calendar, as last year the monarch was unable to attend the traditional Easter Thursday service in Worcester, due to his cancer treatment. He expressed ina video message his “great sadness” at missing the event, as Camilla stepped in.

This time, King Charles, 76, was able to be there in person and happily chatted with well-wishers and attendees in the spring sunshine, before entering Durham Cathedral with Camilla, 77.

The Queen looked elegant in a bottle green Anna Valentine coat dress - a fitting colour, symbolising new beginnings for Easter week - and matching velvet Philip Treacy hat as she, too, chatted with the crowds gathered outside.
