Of course, both on screen and off, his life has been anything but since he shot to fame on Saturday Night Live. And, both on screen and off, he’s struggled with the price of fame. “Pete has been burning the candle at both ends for a while now,” an insider tells Star. “That can take a serious toll mentally.”
Such a toll that the 29-year-old recently checked himself into rehab to deal with his issues. Along with post-traumatic stress disorder, the King of Staten Island star — who lost his father, a fireman, on 9/11 — has also been dealing with a recent borderline personality disorder diagnosis. “Pete is smart and self-aware enough to recognize that feeling that he needs professional help,” says the insider. “He’s pushed the red button and done the right thing.”
