Glamorous city girl Pele Khoza(Bokang Phelane) didn’t fighther way from being a nobody from nowhere to being the boss babe of the Joburg club scene only to get stuck in a place like Giyani. She’s gone from turning heads in admiration, to getting stared at as if she crashed a funeral in a clown suit. And in her own house, too!
Well, about that . . . Pele might be Solani Khoza’s (Lesley Musina) wife, but everyone knows the real boss in the Khoza house is Solani’s sister, Mambeku (Nsuku Baloyi). For ten years, Solani just sent money, while Mambeku ran his home, raised his three kids, and educated them in local culture so those kids could hold up their heads in the community. And Pele’s position is going to be tested even further when Solani’s ex-wife Nyeleti (Nyeleti Mathebula) makes a dramatic return on Monday, 6 March.
FAMILY FIRST
Deep down, Pele and Mambeku have the same agenda – family above everything. But they’re like two dogs tugging on opposite ends of the same bone, growling at each other.
“When Pele comes in, she’s supposed to be the matriarch, because she’s the wife. And it is an uphill battle until she realises that even though she comes with all these benefits – like more money, the car, the flashy life from Joburg, and all that stuff – the person who actually has the power to influence not only her household’s heart, but her community’s heart, is this traditional matriarch,” explains Bokang.
