This wasn't part of my plan

With a long, successful and colourful career in the art and entertainment world, two bouts of cancer and an Order of Australia Medal under her belt, it makes sense that Heather Mitchell would be the perfect candidate for a candid memoir. But the actress had no intention of becoming an author when a former associate came to her with the idea of writing about her life. “It was the last thing on my mind,” she tells WHO.

However, after writing short story after short story, her new tome, Everything and Nothing, was born. “It was one of those beautiful, unexpected gifts from someone because I would never have done this,” Mitchell, 65, admits. “It’s always a nice feeling when things aren’t part of your plan and they just happen.”

With film credits ranging from Muriel’s Wedding to The Great Gatsby and appearances in countless TV series, from A Country Practice to The Secrets She Keeps and Upright, Mitchell’s face has become a constant on our screens over the years. But as familiar as she might feel, her book reveals an intimate side to the Aussie actress.
