Shocking new details on Jamie Foxx’s sudden health crisis, which was shrouded in secrecy

After a couple of days off, Cameron Diaz was back at work on the Atlanta set of her new Netflix movie, Back in Action, on April 17. But instead of filming with her good pal Jamie Foxx — who lured her out of retirement to co-star with him in the action comedy — she was acting opposite his body double. “Jamie was still in the hospital a week after suffering a terrifying medical scare,” a source says of the actor, who on April 11 had experienced what his family described as a “medical complication.” And while the cast and crew were forced to resume production, which was set to wrap on April 19, “at this point the movie is secondary on everyone’s mind.”

Jamie’s health is the main priority. “Everyone is heartbroken — no one saw this coming because he always seemed healthy,” the source says of the Oscar winner (real name: Eric Bishop), who follows a protein-heavy diet and strict workout program to stay impressively fit at 55. “Doctors have been running lots of tests to get to the root of the problem and figure out what’s really wrong with him.” What insiders can confirm is that he was not on set when he fell ill, “and it happened very quickly,” reveals the source. “It’s so scary. One minute he was fine, the next he wasn’t.”

Jamie, who hilariously recruited Tom Brady to help persuade Cameron to come out of retirement, “is a dear friend of hers,” says a source. “After he was hospitalized, Cameron was determined to finish this movie as a tribute to him.”
