
Even though it’s been rumoured for months, Apple’s biggest reveal at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) was also its most surprising. That’s how good its Vision Pro mixed reality headset is.
Reserved for a ‘One More Thing’ moment in the second half of the opening keynote, the Vision Pro builds on the augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) expertise Apple has been developing for the last few years and turned it into a single product: a head-mounted computer that enables you to use looks, gestures and voice controls to not only control the interface, but also to interact with the world around you. As Tim Cook put it during his keynote: “The Vision Pro is the first Apple product you look through, and not at.” What’s surprising is just how accomplished, and ground-breaking the Vision Pro feels.
The Vision Pro is certainly complex, comprising two 4K micro-OLED displays (one for each eye) mounted on a curved piece of opaque class around which sit 12 high resolution cameras, six microphones, five sensors, and a curved logic board (see 'Brain Power', a Spatial Audio sound system and more - all wrapped up in a super-slim, aluminium frame.
