CHECK THESE OFF

As per a study, genderbased discrimination has a negative impact on women's health in India - not only do women have to face gender bias while accessing healthcare, but gender stereotyping also prevents them from voicing their health problems. Compound this with the fact that women usually put their health on the backburner to care for their loved ones, and we know we have a problem on our hands.

While the Indian government has a good number of health schemes to benefit women who come from underprivileged backgrounds or with low incomes, the onus for a woman's health still lies with her. And the importance of preventive healthcare cannot be emphasised enough. So, start early, take your health in your hands, and stay well.

Read on for health screenings that are a must for women at different ages.

SKIN CHECK

As per statistics, the incidence of all types of skin cancers is lower among Indians, given the protective effect of melanin. However, you can never be too careful. Risk factors for skin cancer include having fair skin, a family history of skin cancer, a history of blistering sun burns early in life, significant sun exposure, and the presence of multiple unusual moles. Catch skin cancer early by checking yourself once a month, starting age 18. Look for new or suspicious moles, and ask your physician to have you evaluated for risk factors and early detection.
