HAVING THE HARD TALK

As children are increasingly exposed to the world, they will need to be aware of A global issues such as war, violence, global warming and racism, as well as, closer home, death in the family and, if necessary, marital strife.

Talking to children about difficult topics is one of the most challenging tasks one can encounter as a parent.

Despite the fact that every child and circumstance is unique, neglecting difficult discussions with your children can leave them with unaddressed misconceptions or concerns. As parents, you are your children's first line of reference, and you want them to feel safe turning to you for guidance and reassurance through difficult times. It is crucial to engage your child in open discussions about their emotions and worries from an early age in order to create an environment where they feel safe talking to you about anything.

Establishing this open line of discussion on complex topics helps young minds develop deeper understandings, independent viewpoints and positive coping abilities.
