After 18 years of marriage, Kevin Costner and his wife, Christine, are divorcing. The split was due to “circumstances beyond his control,” a rep for the Yellowstone star told People on May 2. “It was not anything that he wanted or sought,” a source adds of Costner. “If he could change the situation, he would.”
Christine (née Baumgartner), a former model and handbag designer, filed a petition for dissolution of marriage at a Santa Barbara courthouse on May 1, citing “irreconcilable differences” while requesting joint custody of their three children: sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12. (Costner also has four adult children from his previous relationships, including his marriage to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994.) According to court documents, Christine, 49, and Costner, 68—who is reportedly worth $250 million—have a prenup.
