Kindness Begins at Home

PEOPLE and IVORY are spreading kindness with simple but meaningful gestures.

FOR JEANNIE MASAS, A mother of three living in the Bronx, New York City, kindness starts first thing in the morning.

Though she doesn't work until the afternoon, she gets up around 5 A.M.

to spend some quality family time around the kitchen table before seeing her daughter off to school.

Jeannie makes a point to inject kindness into every aspect of her life, from being a community member to parenting to her job as an emergency maintenance dispatcher in the largest housing cooperative in the world. "I want to be a living example not just to my kids, but to anyone I come across,"

she says. "I want to nudge every frown in the opposite direction. I don't wait to be kind. I just go forward."
