A lonely cabby develops an unhealthy obsession with a late-night DJ, sparking a shocking chain of events, in Channel 5’s four-part thriller The Night Caller, shown across four nights this week.
Liverpudlian Tony Conroy (Sherwood’s Robert Glenister) is a former teacher who lost his job, family and his confidence following a major trauma.
‘We don’t know why at the start, but viewers see him haunted by a series of flashbacks,’ explains Glenister, 64. ‘The career he was so passionate about and respected for has gone, and now he’s lonely, vulnerable and making ends meet by driving a cab.’
As he drives around in the evening, Tony becomes increasingly hooked on listening to a late-night radio show called NightTalk, hosted by DJ Lawrence Brightway (Gotham’s Sean Pertwee).
