Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

From Wednesday 3 July, Netflix

Fast-talking Detroit detective Axel Foley is back on patrol in 90210 as action-comedy franchise Beverly Hills Cop returns with a long overdue fourth instalment almost 40 years after the first film’s release.

In new Netflix movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Eddie Murphy effortlessly slips back into the iconic Detroit Lions jacket to play wisecracking cop Axel, who leaps into action when he discovers his estranged daughter, criminal defense attorney Jane (Taylour Paige), is in danger.

While joining forces with a new partner, strait-laced detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon Levitt), Axel also calls on old pals Billy Rosewood and John Taggart (Judge Reinhold and John Ashton reprising their roles) to help uncover a conspiracy in Los Angeles’ neon-drenched streets and protect Jane at all costs.

‘We have been trying to develop this movie for 15, 20 years, just trying to get it right,’ says comedian and actor Murphy, 63, whose many credits include Trading Places (1983), Coming to America (1988) and the Shrek franchise. ‘I must have read half a dozen scripts, but it finally came together when we got the original producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, involved.
