NEW FACTUAL The Making of Do They Know It's Christmas? Friday, 9pm, BBC4
On a chilly Sunday in November 1984, pop stars including Sting, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and George Michael gathered in a London studio to record the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in aid of the famine in Ethiopia, the song not only was an instant No.1 but has become a festive classic, too.
Now, to mark the 40th anniversary of the recording of the track, BBC4's documentary The Making of Do They Know It's Christmas? features fly-on-the-wall footage from the famous studio session, some of which has never been seen before.
