NEW COMEDY DRAMA

Bad Sisters From Friday 19 August, Apple TV+

A dysfunctional group of sisters become embroiled in the aftermath of a shocking death in Apple TV+’s deliciously dark comic thriller Bad Sisters.

The 10-part series – which launches with a double bill, followed by a new episode released weekly – has been co-written by Sharon Horgan and adapted from a hit Belgian drama, Clan.

It sees Horgan play ambitious singleton Eva Garvey, who has a tight, unbreakable bond with her four sisters – downtrodden Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), secretive Ursula (Eva Birthistle), no-nonsense Bibi (Sarah Greene), and mercurial Becka (Eve Hewson) – after they lost their parents when they were very young.

‘Eva had plans that went away when her folks died, and she decided to stick around and be the adult for the family,’ explains Horgan, 52. ‘She never had kids and has motherly feelings towards her sisters.

‘The subject of sisters is something that’s been explored in other shows, but here, the sheer number of the sisters and the connections between them is what got to me. Who looks after who? It’s endlessly interesting.’

As the sisters rub along together, Grace’s vile, controlling husband, John Paul (Claes Bang), who also works with Eva, is a major fly in the ointment as he constantly manipulates and undermines his long-suffering wife and attempts to cut her off from her siblings.
