ALISON SLADE
A mother’s LOVE

EMMERDALE MONDAY-FRIDAY, 7.30PM, ITV SOAP

Emotional scars run much deeper than physical ones, as Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle is testament to. His relationship with mum Faith has been tainted by memories of her  walking out on him as a child – a chapter brought to life in a poignant flashback episode in 2017.

Now, she’s about to leave him again… for ever. The cancer Faith once defeated is back, and it’s terminal. Can mother and son reunite before it’s too late?

TV Times caught up with actors Je Hordley, 52, and Sally Dexter, 62, for an exclusive interview to nd out more…

Jeff on CAIN

Cain has been quite cold since learning of Faith’s diagnosis. How does he really feel?

There’s a lot of history there, and you have to go back to the flashback episode to understand it. She walked out on him and left him with a man who was a drunk and who beat him, and it’s like a deep wound. Then a few years ago, she left again, when he really needed her. It’s a self-preservation thing. He’s angry over the fact she keeps walking out on him.

Has Faith leaving Cain made him the man he is today?

Yes, and some things are for the better and some for the worse. He’d never leave his own children. The way he chooses to protect them is sometimes questionable, but he’d do anything for them. On the down side, he’s very closed with his emotions.
