BEYOND PARADISE

NEW FRIDAY, 8PM, BBC1 DRAMA

On a crisp September afternoon, TV Times is basking in the sun and staring out at a beautiful, clear blue ocean - if we squint, we could almost be in the Caribbean for BBC1's Death in Paradise...

But, in fact, we're actually still in the UK and enjoying the last gasps of summer in the picturesque Cornish coastal town of Looe while watching filming for the hit crime drama's much-anticipated new spin-off series, Beyond Paradise.

The six-parter sees Kris Marshall reprise his role as fan favourite DI Humphrey Goodman, who was the lead investigator in the original show from 2014 to 2017 before leaving the (fictional) island of Saint Marie to return to London with his girlfriend Martha Lloyd, played by Sally Bretton.

This series follows the engaged couple as they relocate to (fictional) Shipton Abbott, the Devonshire town where Martha grew up, so she can be closer to her widowed mother, Anne (The Durrells' Barbara Flynn), as well as realise her dream of starting her own business.

Taking a break from filming on the seafront, Kris, 49, and Sally, 42, joined us for a chat...

How did you feel when you heard that Humphrey and Martha were getting their own show?

SALLY It was so sweet! We got the phone call in the middle of the pandemic, saying, 'We're thinking about doing this, would you be interested?' It was a lovely thing to look forward to when everything was shut down.
