HEAT
NEW TUESDAY-FRIDAY, 9PM, CHANNEL 5 DRAMA
It’s hard to imagine Danny Dyer being afraid of anything after playing EastEnders’ alpha male Mick Carter for nine years. But the former soap star, who bowed out of Albert Square in dramatic style on Christmas Day 2022, says his latest gig headlining Channel 5’s new drama Heat was borne out of fear…
‘The appeal of this role? It was the fear of not getting any work after EastEnders!’ grins Danny, who plays Steve Cameron, a family man whose world implodes during an annual joint holiday with friends.
‘I’d made this huge decision to leave [BBC1’s] EastEnders and had a very emotional leaving party. I was doing my speech thinking, “I’ve made a mistake! I love everyone here so much.” But this job presented itself, and when I read the script, it was dark, twisted and brilliant. Plus, it was in Australia!’
Created by Neighbours’ executive producer Jason Herbison, the four-parter was filmed on location in Melbourne and rural Victoria.
The story begins with Steve, his wife, Sarah, and their teenage children setting off to visit Steve’s long-time best mate Brad (Scottish-Australian TV star Darren McMullen), and his family at their stunning new home in the bush.
