RETURN TO LOCKERBIE WITH LORRAINE KELLY
NEW WED, 9PM, ITV1 FACTUAL

Just after 7pm on 21 December 1988, the lives of locals in Lockerbie changed forever when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded in mid-air over the Scottish border town, killing all 259 passengers and crew on board and 11 people on the ground, in the deadliest terrorist attack in UK history.

One of the first on the scene was presenter Lorraine Kelly. Then a 29-year-old reporter for ITV’s TV-am, she witnessed the horrifying aftermath of the disaster caused by a bomb aboard the Boeing 747.

Now, almost 35 years on, she returns to Lockerbie for the first time in a one-off documentary for ITV1, which sees her confronting her own painful memories while discovering how residents rebuilt their lives.

‘I’ve never felt able to revisit the town itself, though I’ve always had a sense I’ve got unfinished business there,’ says daytime host Lorraine, 63. ‘So now, I’m finally going back to find out how people in the town managed to recover.
