THE JETTY

MON & TUE, 9PM, BBC1 DRAMA (BOX SET, BBC iPLAYER)

Disturbing secrets bubble beneath the surface of a seemingly idyllic Lancashire lakeside town in BBC1’s new crime thriller The Jetty.

The four-part series, beginning with a double bill this week, sees Victoria star Jenna Coleman as intuitive DC Ember Manning, who is a familiar figure within her community, where she is raising her spirited teenage daughter Hannah (Bridgerton’s Ruby Stokes) alone following her husband’s death.

Trouble brews, however, when Ember and her cocky young colleague Hitch (Shadow and Bone’s Archie Renaux) are called out to a possible arson attack on a holiday home, which was once a boat hut and sailing club run by Ember’s late spouse.

Ember’s investigation grows more complex as shady local family the Ashbys come on to her radar, and she has grave concerns about what distressed teenager Miranda Ashby (rising star Shannon Watson) may be hiding.

Meanwhile, she also learns that a dogged podcaster, Riz Samuel (I May Destroy You’s Weruche Opia), is researching a missing-person cold case and the worrying involvement between two underage girls and an older man (House of the Dragon’s Tom Glynn-Carney).

But when Ember searches for potential connections between the mysteries, she makes a shocking discovery that causes her to re-examine her own enigmatic past.
