Rock climber Alex Honnold is taking on a superhuman feat as he attempts to scale Ingmikortilaq, a 3,750ft never-before-climbed sea cliff in Greenland.
'The first picture I saw of Ingmikortilaq, it looked like death,' admits Alex. 'It's so big, remote and wild.
But in this three-part series, his adventure is about more than just an adrenaline buzz, for he and fellow climbers Hazel Findlay and Mikey Schaefer, local guide Adam Kjeldsen, safety and logistics expert Aldo Kane and glaciologist He&iuml;di Sevestre will collect research samples that will give scientists crucial information about climate change.
"I've always cared about the world around me, but haven't had the opportunity to do something useful,' says Alex.
'Now we can do meaningful work as well as climbing.'&nbsp;
In the first episode, Alex and the team make a 100-mile expedition that sees them cross polar bear territory, rappel into a glacier and climb a terrifying 1,500ft rock wall.
For novice climbers Adam and He&iuml;di, it's no mean feat.
'What's at stake when climbing is ultimately your life, says Alex. 'You can die in a lot of different ways. You can only roll the dice so many times.'
