Shankar is one of the few modernage artists who have consistently produced genre-defying yet headstrong records that wish to speak and not just entertain. Perhaps the finest example of this is In Jyoti's Name, a track from her 2013 album Traces of You, made to draw attention to the horrific attack on Nirbhaya in 2012.
