THE ART OF WATCHMAKING

ON THE STYLE RADAR

We caught up with Adrian Bosshard, CEO, Rado, and Tej Chauhan, the designer of the new DiaStar Original, unveiled at the India Art Fair 2025

GRAZIA: Rado's motto, 'Design You Can Feel', emphasises emotional connection. How does this watch evoke that feeling for you?

ADRIAN BOSSHARD: Every time I check my watch, I feel a deep sense of pride, knowing the craftsmanship and passion behind it. This timepiece is the result of decades of expertise from our engineers, designers, and watchmakers. We have seasoned experts mentoring young talent, ensuring that Rado’s legacy continues to thrive. This emotional depth is what makes Rado special, and for me, that’s what ‘Design You Can Feel’ is all about.

G: How do you see this unconventional timepiece appealing to both traditional watch enthusiasts and younger design-conscious consumers?

AB: The DiaStar, especially in gold, has been popular in the Middle East. However, the 2022 model's bold colour accents revived its global appeal, including in the US and Central Europe. Initially, I was hesitant about Tej's gold-coloured DiaStar idea, but he executed this vision beautifully, to create something provocative yet harmonious. We believe this timepiece will resonate with global customers.

G: Rado has collaborated with numerous visionary designers, including Le Corbusier. What made Chauhan the right partner for the DiaStar Original redesign?

AB: Tej is the ideal partner because of our complementary expertise. He deeply understands that Rado is a master of materials and watchmaking, and we equally respect his mastery in design. This mutual appreciation creates a strong foundation for collaboration, allowing us to push creative boundaries while staying true to our identity.
