When I was still flying, I also participated in an Elders Flight at Rand airport some years ago. That event was somewhat smaller that what we witnessed on Saturday 22 April at Brakpan airfield. I was told there were in the region of 90 pilots and judging by the number of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters on the airfield this day in the autumn sun was a resounding success. This initiative of giving back to elders and military veterans. As in the past Felix assembled an amazing team of experts from safety to event planning, marketing and many sponsors as well as some of the finest pilots that can be found anywhere in the world.
Christine and I drove to Brakpan early on Saturday morning and on arrival it was clear that a significant amount of planning had already taken place, within Apie Kotze’s large new hangar many beautifully decorated tables has been set up by Belinda Gosher and her amazing women’s team the night before.
