Laurent Ponsot is one of Burgundy's most celebrated winemakers
Sommelier India|Winter 2024

Laurent Ponsot is one of Burgundy's most celebrated winemakers

Photographing Laurent Ponsot was not easy in the beginning. But that was 25 years ago before I realised the best portraits can come from reluctant sitters. He really liked the one of him leaning between two wooden vats glowering at me as he answered his mobile. There followed my suggestion a few years later of him beside his white Mustang sports car. Next time he happily, and repeatedly, leapt at first light across the steps above his beloved Aligoté vineyard of Monts Luisants watched with interest by his border collie, “Fusto” who was plainly keen to join in the game.
