Poppies for a sunny spot

THERE are many types of poppies but one of the most joyful is, I think, the variety known as Iceland poppies.

Papaver nudicaule are either grown as biennials or as short-lived perennials and they are simply stunning, with their papery petals in citrus shades of yellow and orange, as well as white.

They grow to 18in (45cm) and like a sunny spot. They also work well in pots and look lovely in a cottage garden.
