Colourful annuals
Some of the best annuals are found with Scabiosa atropurpurea (sweet scabious) and these can be grown successfully from seed. The colours range from vintage creams to deep red and burgundy and they make a pretty display in a wild garden or in groups towards the back of flower beds.
You can buy seed online from www.adeneflowers.co.za and her range of colours are gorgeous.
What they need
• Full sun.
• Well-draining soil that is not too rich –they may flop over in too-rich soil.
• Moderate watering, and they are drought-tolerant once established.
