Our bodies are amazing, and are truly pushed to their limits when carrying a child – but it’s so important to listen to your instincts and acknowledge when something doesn’t feel quite right. Changes in pregnancy are normal, but struggling with weight gain after two babies, I felt miserable and had to act.
After having my second child in 2016, I reached my heaviest, at 15 stone. I felt conscious and embarrassed, especially when my fingers swelled so severely during pregnancy that my wedding ring had to be cut off. But with my babies born just 18 months apart, mum-life was full-on and my health couldn’t always take priority.
It wasn’t just weight gain that I was struggling with, either. Breastfeeding brought its own challenges, including a seemingly endless list of sudden food intolerances. As if overnight, I found myself unable to eat dairy products, red meat and even tomatoes. And if that wasn’t miserable enough, I developed persistent urinary tract infections – UTIs – which left me in near-constant discomfort.
