Just over four years ago. we moved to the lake to retire and renovate our 1990s waterfront home. What an adventure it has been! Slowly but surely, we have tackled our list of projects that included painting, flooring, landscaping, wallpapering and a full bathroom remodel.

This year, my focus has been our master bedroom: to create a cozy retreat and seating area to enjoy the natural views and have a place to read and begin each day ... a bedroom sanctuary!

The first step in designing this space was choosing a wall color that would add a calm and cozy ambiance to the room, giving it a feeling of peace and comfort for unwinding at the end of the day. After painting the walls a soft blue-gray and freshening up the trim and ceiling with bright white, I began changing the outdated light fixtures and searching for the perfect area rug to layer over our carpet until we can replace it with hardwood.
