‘I always have a decorating project on the go’

Alexis Miller sees her home as a constant work-in-progress and loves to stamp her individuality on it with colour and detail, from dark feature walls to sleek fixtures

‘I always have a decorating project on the go’

When Alexis and her husband, Stephen, bought their Glasgow new-build, Alexis at first envisioned transforming it into a clean-lined, minimalist home, but couldn’t resist adding colour. ‘We bought the house brand new from the developer, so it was a complete blank canvas,’ Alexis shares. ‘I initially planned a very low-key, Scandi, minimal interior, but I found myself injecting more and more colour and drama as time went by.’

As it was a new property, no renovations were needed, so Alexis could focus on the finer details. ‘Every light switch and plug socket is carefully considered,’ she says. ‘I chose black light switches and black room dividers at the thresholds for a graphic effect. I didn’t want an entirely monochromatic scheme, though, so added touches of deep ochre, intense green and soothing blue.’

COME ON IN...

WE ARE I'm Alexis Miller, 39. I'm studying interior architecture, and I live here with my husband, Stephen, who works in the nuclear industry, and our sons, Freddie, 10, and Zac, six.

OUR HOME IS a four-bedroom newbuild, in Glasgow, which we bought three years ago. I share my interior ideas on Instagram @our_rosemont_home.

OUR BIGGEST MISTAKE was getting started on the main bedroom without a plan. I'm still not entirely happy with it.
