The Swiss public transport system certainly aces the luxe factor with eye popping train rides, indulgent multi-course meals on a Belle Epoque era steamship, and even efficient luggage transport services.

Slow Travel In Switzerland

FROM PICTURE PERFECT snowcapped mountains to turquoise blue lakes and lush green pastures, Switzerland might just have some of the most breathtaking natural scenery on this planet. And I did it like the locals - via the nation's vast and extremely reliable transport network that certainly gives Japan's a run for its money.

First on the order of business is to fully utilise the Swiss Federal Railways' (SBB) nifty luggage transfer service that offers same day door-to-door luggage delivery between hotels so that one need not get bogged down by heavy suitcases.

Now footloose and fancy free, it becomes a lot more effortless to focus on the meditative pleasures of slow travel. As if this is not a luxury in itself, the Swiss have actually improved already dreamy journeys, with premium options on several train and steamboat routes.
