TAG Heuer has unleashed the Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche, a chronograph that will upend your perception of timekeeping

TAMING TIME

AT WATCHES & WONDERS 2023 earlier this year, Augustman was honoured to catch a special preview of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche ahead of its debut. Designed for precise measurements of short time intervals, the Chronosprint powered by the TH20-08 movement, for the first time ever, mirrors Porsche 901’s acceleration from zero to 100km/h in 9.1 seconds. Hence, its central hand accelerates swiftly, gradually decelerates over 60 seconds, and quickly restarts.

On such a momentous occasion, we spoke to Movements Director Carole Forestier-Kasapi on the creation of this new interpretation of the in-house calibre TH20 launched at the watch fair.

For a very long time, we had one chronograph to time everything from heart rate with the pulsograph to automotive speed with the tachymeter bezel, but with the new Chronosprint, I realised that specialist chronographs are in our future. Is it your perspective that we could have dedicated chronographs for every kind of sport or activity?

It is one possibility to have specific display functions, but there are more coming.

How did the idea occur to you that you could speed up or slow down timing depending on what it needs?
