DAY OUT: Llanerchaeron, Ceredigion OH, TO HEAR A PIG SNORE...

The serenity of this farm is infectious; the sounds, smells and textures of the surrounding countryside spill into the yard, the workshops and the house, which in turn envelop you, says Julie Brominicks

DAY OUT: Llanerchaeron, Ceredigion OH, TO HEAR A PIG SNORE...

Deep rhythmic rumblings reverberate around D the farmyard. Astonishingly loud yet - so soporific. I've never heard a pig snoring before. Save for birdsong and hen-cluck, it is the only audible noise and holds me captive.

The isolation of a simple, primitive sound is so rare now, it surprises and soothes. But tranquillity is normal here where light, materials and sound are natural.
