It was no April Fool’s Day joke. Did I want it to be one? Of course not. But who would believe me?
“He proposed”
“When?”
“Today!!”
“You have got to be kidding me!”
This was just me and my playful mind spinning its own tales. Instead what I did get as a reaction to
“He proposed” was…
“Did you say YES?”
And my heart skipped a beat.
FAST FORWARD TO APRIL 8TH.
Two States 2.0.
From being strangers just a week ago, to my parents arriving at his parents’ home in Chennai, thousands of miles away from Delhi, bonding with stories that even the two of us did not know about each other - the parents met. Even before I had met his parents, or my parents had met him - the parents met. Exchanging sweets, hugs and selfies. That is just one example of what saying YES does, it brings two families closer. That, and advice on getting in shape for the Big Day. But saying YES also does one more thing – it accelerates the journey from Miss to Mrs. “
So when’s the Big Day?”
“23rd April”, I say, casually.
“Oh wow! That’s so fast! Chhat mangni pat vyah, wah ji wah!”
