Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf once called the Oyster Perpetual Datejust a masterpiece of horological science. To him, the watch represented the greatest achievements of the brand: the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window at three o'clock on the dial.
A REVOLUTIONARY INVENTION
Wilsdorf had also believed that the watchmaking progress should also encourage human progress, a notion that reflected how the post-war world was changing in 1945, which was also when the Datejust was launched.
