Ankur Kankonkar, a young entrepreneur who lost his sight early in life, is redefining success against all odds. His journey is not just about overcoming disability; it's about embracing the power of vision both literal and metaphorical.
Early Life and Academic Challenges
Born into a loving joint family, Ankur's early years were marked by typical childhood joys-playing sports, excelling in academics, and nurturing a passion for theater. His vision was normal as a child, and he thrived in his surroundings, often being the star in competitions and school activities. However, a move to Margao for higher education proved challenging. "In Canacona, I was a big fish in a small pond. In Margao, I felt lost," he recalls, reflecting on how the transition affected his academic performance. This sense of alienation contributed to a drop in his grades, leading him to return to Canacona to finish his schooling.
After completing his secondary education, Ankur pursued a degree in Pharmaceutical Science. Yet, he confesses, "Looking back, it was one of the worst decisions of my life." His true passion lay elsewhere. As he grappled with the complexities of his studies, Ankur faced an even more significant challenge-his vision began to deteriorate.
Diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at a young age, Ankur's condition escalated during his college years, leaving him struggling to read the board and engage with his studies. Despite consulting numerous doctors, the prognosis remained bleak: his condition was deemed incurable. "I lost confidence and felt like I was just trying to get through each day," he admits.
