
1969 was what some describe as a watershed moment for technology, and especially for watches. As the world gathered to watch men on the moon, the first-ever automatic chronographs and quartz watches came into being, as watchmakers pushed the limits of horology with brave designs and cutting-edge materials science advancements. Swiss manufacturer Tissot decided to embark on their own watchmaking voyage back then; an effort that eventually produced the Sideral S by 1971. Tissot's brand language at the time was bright, evocative, and very youth-focused - even their vintage ads from fifty years ago carried slogans such as 'Let's get away from Dad's traditional style of watch!"
