AUSSIES BRACE FOR FLU SEASON!

Restrictions during the COVID pandemic helped curb the spread of the flu over the past three years. But as life gets back on track, experts have warned this flu season is going to be one of the worst on record.

With a little planning and some common sense, Aussies can easily protect themselves from deadly influenza, and safely enjoy the cooler months.

Dr Tony MacDermott, Bupa’s chief medical officer, tells New Idea it’s more important than ever to get vaccinated in order to protect yourself and your loved ones.

According to the Department of Health and Aged Care’s figures, Australia has already recorded more than 15,500 flu cases at the time of publication – a volume of cases not seen last year until early May.

“Based on what we saw in the Northern Hemisphere’s recent flu season, it is expected to arrive earlier than expected this year and be worse than last year with a higher rate of hospitalisations,” Dr MacDermott explains.
