Not many people could understand everything Britney Spears has gone through in the public eye quite like Sir Elton John.

Even though they became pop icons decades apart, the pairs tumultuous trajectories to fame reveal startling parallels - making their new collaboration all the more poignant.

Sources tell New Idea that Elton, 75, has become "a much-needed close friend and confidant" to the mum of two since recording their hit song 'Hold Me Closer' in July.

The single is a reimagined version of his classic "Tiny Dancer', which rocketed to the top of the charts around the world back in 1971.

Their joint success comes after Britney finally succeeded in breaking her eight-year conservatorship held by her estranged father, Jamie, and marrying her long time partner Sam Asghari.
