When it comes to our diets most of us know how important fats, proteins and carbohydrates are, but there is another key player we should be keeping an eye on: fibre. While it's still a carbohydrate, fibre is essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

"By helping to keep our gut and microbiome healthy, it also aids in reducing the risk of various chronic illnesses," explains co-founder of the Fast 800 Programme Dr Michael Mosley. "Not having enough in your diet can lead to constipation, fatigue and low energy, difficulty feeling satiated after meals, and difficulty losing weight."

So, given the important role fibre plays in keeping us healthy, how can we incorporate more of it into our diets?
