THE CHEF IS EMBROILED IN A CHAPTER HE'D SOONER FORGET
Jamie Oliver BOOK BACKLASH

Jamie Oliver has long had the recipe for success at his fingertips. But the popular British chef served up a rare, and completely avoidable, career misstep with his new children's book, Billy and the Epic Escape.

The 400-page fantasy novel has been fiercely criticised for its inclusion of a chapter, entitled 'To Steal a Child'.

It sees the story's villain abducting a young Indigenous girl living in foster care near Alice Springs, NT.

Critics claimed the plot point was insensitive, particularly given the history of First Nations and Torres Strait Islander children being removed from their families.
