With its population of more than 10 million people, Jakarta offers a busy, buzzy destination where modernity merges with a rich and colourful history. The Indonesian capital is known for its culture, incredible food and also its friendly people.

However, Jakarta is also a very congested city, and traffic jams can be a major problem. If you’re planning a visit, it’s best to avoid peak time periods, between July to August, and December.

Here are some things you can do with the whole family in Jakarta...

EXPLORE KOTA TUA

Jakarta's Old Town, Kota Tua, is home to a number of colonial-era buildings and museums. Historic areas including Chinatown, the Kota Intan Bridge and Sunda Kelapa (Jakarta Old Port) are also worth exploring. Make sure to admire the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta Cathedral and Merdeka Square.
