Leigh Sales likes to joke that if Lisa Millar wasn't such a stickler for punctuality, their decades-long friendship would never have got off the ground.

The pair met in 1995 when they were working as reporters for the ABC. With tardiness not a part of her vocabulary, Leigh, 50, had arrived at the restaurant early - but so too had Lisa!

"We were the first two people... and bonded over how we couldn't be late if we tried," Leigh recently told The Age. "It was one of those serendipitous moments that are life-changing."

The two clicked immediately, but it wasn't until they worked together in America a few years later that they really laid the groundwork for their enduring friendship.
