The 55-year-old singer confirmed the sad family news in a statement, saying: "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend.
Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day." The 'Hero' singer added she'd been "blessed" to have spent "the last week with my mum before she passed".
No other details about Patricia or Alison's causes of death were revealed at press time.
