Bugles ring out during dawn services as Anzac Day begins. After wreaths are laid and a period of silence is observed, thousands make the pilgrimage to their local pub to finish the day with a friendly game of two-up.
But there is another essential part of April 25th which is beloved across Australia and New Zealand – the Anzac biscuit. And for members of the Country Women’s Association (CWA), the lead-up means getting into the kitchen to produce the thousands of biscuits needed to meet demand.
Jenny Nola, state president of the CWA of Victoria, estimates they make around 4000 biscuits in the weeks before Anzac Day.
