The greatest test of creativity, a mentor once advised me, lies in what one achieves within a box. This sentiment resonated in my mind as I explored the Cartier Libre Tutti Tutti collection. "Libre" means free in French, and the name of this product pillar directly echoes the freedom of creation granted to the design team, who are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild - but, like in the case of my metaphorical box, within the confines of Cartier's hallowed heritage.
Cartier's design team has consistently demonstrated that innovation, creativity and freedom of expression are integral to its legacy. The Cartier Libre Tutti Tutti breathes new life into traditional design codes, drawing inspiration, in part, from the house's iconic Tutti Frutti collection. Released at the height of the Art Deco period in the '20s, and inspired by Louis and Jacques Cartier's travels to India, Tutti Frutti creations were an explosion of colour, exploring contrasting hues and carved gemstones, directly influenced by Islamic art.
