JEWELLERY STACKING EMERGED as a fashion trend in the early 2010s. At Boucheron, however, this philosophy of maximalist luxury has long been ingrained in its DNA.
There are numerous moments and creations in the French jewellery house’s 166-year history that demonstrate its unconventional takes on regality. The Question Mark necklace, introduced in the late 19th century by Frédéric Boucheron, which features a unique, flexible design that wraps around the neck, is one. The Serpent Bohème collection, designed in 1968, featuring a serpentine motif, is another.
More recently, there is the Quatre, a four-band gold ring, which arrived fully formed 20 years ago as a Boucheron icon. Quatre is French for ‘four’ and the ring lived up to its name by combining a quartet of Boucheron’s most distinct codes in a single piece of jewellery. There is the Double Godron, comprising two raised fluted bands that first surfaced in the 1860s; the Clou de Paris with faceted edges inspired by the cobblestoned streets of Paris; a classic row of diamonds; and a Grosgrain motif that recalls the look of ribbed silk fabric.
