The Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust was created in 1957 by Rolex founder Hans Wildorf, who understood that modern women want to wear a timepiece designed just for them but with the same precision as men’s watches. The novelty broke new technical ground with its small 28mm case size and waterproof resistance of 100 metres. It is powered by calibre 2236, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed by Rolex, and is protected by a fluted caseback that’s super airtight—only a special tool used by certified Rolex watchmakers will open it. A Twinlock winding crown additionally prevents water from seeping into the case.
